CAMPAIGNS OVERVIEW
Voces de la Frontera has been a regional and national leader in campaigns for immigrant worker rights.
Immigration Reform - we mobilized thousands for "Day Without Latinos" marches in 2006, 2007 and 2008 that called on politicians to fix our broken immigration system. We continue to press for fair and comprehensive immigration reform that offers a path to citizenship
Social Security No Match - we have been fighting strongly against the Department of Homeland Security's plan for 'No Match' letters that puts 8 million jobs under threat
Education Rights - we have been working hard for both state and federal legislation to open up higher education to immigrant students.
Workers' Rights - we support low-wage and immigrant workers in getting their rights and entitlements - and offer regular 'Know Your Rights' trainings
Get Out The Vote - we are committed to strengthening democracy by organizing for increased voter participation in 2008
New Sanctuary Movement - we have been central to local faith-based organizing to defend family unity against the threat of deportation
Drivers Licenses - we mounted a huge campaign to try and prevent bad state legislation that made Wisconsin's roads less safe by denying licenses to undocumented drivers. We continue to push for a reverse on this policy.
Anti-War Movement - we join with a coalition of other local organizations in opposing the Iraq War and the War on Immigrants that has been waged alongside
Myths & Facts
Myth: The U.S. is being overrun with immigrants.
Fact: The number of undocumented migrants coming to the U.S. each year is approximately 300,000 according government figures - equivalent to an increases of one tenth of one percent in the populaton.
